On 31 August unknown suspects vandalised a monument in Jedwabne. The graffiti read: “I won’t apologise for Jedwabne.” On the morning of 6 September, banners appeared on the streets of Warsaw, reading “We apologise for Jedwabne. – Legia fans”, “We apologise for Jedwabne. – Jagiellonia Białystok fans”, and “Polonia fans apologise for Jedwabne.” The banners were gone within a few hours.
