WHO'S WHO AND WHY:
Macio Moretti

Music BY KRZYSZTOF ŻUREK

‘I play in thirteen bands. Actually I made the number up. I can’t tell in how many. Those bands don’t perform simultaneously though, so playing is possible and doesn’t harm brain.’ – Macio Moretti

Maciej Moruś aka Macio Moretti (born in Warsaw in 1975) – musician, graphic designer, performer and owner of two record labels: Zgniłe Mięso Records and Lado ABC. Co-founder of “Weź to Wyłącz” festival, which could be translated as “Come on, switch it off”. One of the most colourful and charismatic figures on the Polish underground music scene. Enthusiastic user of bass guitar, drums and microphone. He loves to play with conventions, successfully mixing country, jazz, punk rock and heavy metal. His artistic strategy can be defined as eclecticism and irony. He performs with great passion. Maybe that energy is responsible for the amount of bands that he has created.

WHO'S WHO AND WHY?

In this section we introduce Polish artists, places, new phenomena. We always ask the person or the place’s representative the following question: WHY ARE YOU HERE? It’s completely up to them, how are they going to answer it. Time for Macio Moretti

Among them are: Starzy Singers, Mitch & Mitch (click here for a guest performance by Zbigniew Wodecki, Polish singer and musician, a true icon from 1970s), Baaba, Mołr Drammaz, Baaba Kulka, Paris Tetris, Bassisters Orchestra, Shofar, Królowie Życia..

His music, the open approach, and true unpretentiousness brought him  prestigious media prizes. In 2010 he received awards from two biggest weekly magazines in Poland.
When he is not creating a new record, he deals with graphic design. Known for his sense of humour, which sample you can get a grasp of here.

SERIOUS QUOTES:
“Convention is a fabrication, but at the same time, what a convenient tool to use.”
“As soon as I reset my dependence from the subculture’s demands, it proved I can do whatever I want.”

LESS SERIOUS QUOTES:
“I play in thirteen bands. Actually I made the number up. I can’t tell in how many. Those bands don’t perform simultaneously though, so playing is possible and doesn’t harm brain.”
“I’m definitely more of a drummer, then a bass player, but I think as a bass player when I play drums, and as a drummer when I play bass.”
